Uterine fibroid embolization

Uterine fibroid embolization is a non-surgical treatment for fibroids. Instead, the doctor (a radiologist) treats your uterine fibroids with advanced imaging techniques. The fibroids' blood supply is cut off during the treatment, causing the fibroids to shrink. Uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) is a minimally invasive procedure for treating uterine fibroid tumours. The treatment is sometimes known as Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE), however this is a less specific term that is utilized for problems other than fibroids, as will be detailed later. Fibroid tumours, also known as myomas, are benign tumours that develop in the uterus' muscular wall. It is quite uncommon for them to develop cancer.

Symptoms:

Heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, and pressure on the bladder or bowel are the most prevalent symptoms.

Process:

Physicians use an x-ray camera called a fluoroscope to guide the distribution of tiny particles to the uterus and fibroids during a UFE surgery. The microscopic particles are injected into the body through a thin, flexible tube.

What to expect:

  • Scarless
  • Quick recovery
  • Overnight hospitalization
  • No complications of surgery
  • Normal uterine function
  • Covid safe center
  • 100% vaccinated staff
